Optimising safety and efficiency
At our last SimPlan highlights meeting, two SimPlan colleagues presented the topic of people flow simulation with the following title: ‘Cafeteria crowding: How to tame hungry hordes in AnyLogic’.
This was followed by an exciting example of a project to plan a new company canteen. The task was to examine the layout using a simulation. The aim was to evaluate and optimise the space requirements, waiting times and number of seats. The simulation should also identify possible congestion situations and suggest solutions.
The insights gained enabled the flow of visitors to be managed more efficiently in a revised layout (including more issuing points), waiting times to be minimised and the use of the space to be optimised.
In general, crowd simulation makes it possible to model the behaviour of crowds in different environments such as airports, train stations, shopping centres or event venues. This allows for the realistic mapping of movement sequences and evacuation scenarios.
Advantages and benefits:
➡ Test security concepts: Simulate evacuation scenarios to identify bottlenecks early on.
➡Increase efficiency: Optimise rooms and routes to minimise waiting times and facilitate movement.
➡Increase satisfaction: Optimised flows of people avoid bottlenecks and improve the experience.
➡Planning security: Make informed decisions when planning infrastructure.
Possible areas of application:
➡Event venues: Optimisation of visitor flows.
➡Railway stations & airports: Efficient control of passenger flows.
➡Shopping centres: Planning of customer movements.
➡Museums & theme parks: Improvement of visitor flows.
➡Evacuation: Simulation for more efficient evacuation plans.
➡Urban planning: Optimisation of footpaths and public spaces.
➡Hospitals: Optimisation of patient flows
➡Building layouts: Efficient design of escape routes
➡Mass gatherings: Improving safety at outdoor events
➡Industrial sites: Optimisation of workflows and safety
We would be happy to help you increase the safety and efficiency of your site through crowd simulation.
