What are the skills of our employees and especially of the modellers who will be deployed later?
Harry Kestenbaum can give us the best answer to this question, because, among other things, he selects the suitable project employees after the contract has been awarded.
“First and foremost, our consultants are tool experts. After all we are a simulation service provider, so of course we have to be proficient in our simulation tools. Since we use different tools, it’s usually not always just one simulation tool, but a tool optimized for this issue, which we then have used, so that the employees naturally master several of these tools.”
The modellers are also material flow experts, which means they are familiar with the classic topics of material flow. For example, what is the significance of a LIFO/FIFO buffer store and typical processes in warehouse logistics or intralogistics. These are important factors in order to be able to assess a process at the customer’s site, but also to be able to provide a certain amount of consulting services before modeling in order to narrow down the scenario field.
And of course our employees are industry experts across the various industries and customers. They are familiar with automotive processes, how does a paint shop work, or what do I have to ask the customer and consider in order to create a simulation model?
So ultimately the employee has to have or gain a high level of understanding of the process, although the customers as process owners still know their processes best. So the simulation consultant must ask the customer accordingly to create a model.
Internally as well as externally, the employee takes on the role of the project manager from the simulation viewpoints and is thus a mediator and translator between different areas. Since a simulation model usually covers different areas, conflicts of objectives quickly arise, e.g. between production and logistics. Here, the modeler can usually mediate well with figures, data, facts on the basis of the simulation model.
